From 17-19 September 2024, the Bureau of Reproductive Health, through the Reproductive Health Network Development Group, in collaboration with the WHO Thailand Country Office, organized a capacity-building workshop for surveyors to support the external assessment of facility-based youth-friendly health services (YFHS) at the Grand Richmond Stylish Convention Hotel, Nonthaburi. The workshop was honored by Dr. Bunyarit Sukarat (M.D., Ph.D.), Director of the Bureau of Reproductive Health, who presided over the opening and closing ceremonies and presented certificates. Mrs. On-uma Tangdee, Head of the Reproductive Health Network Development Group, delivered the report. The participants included officers responsible for YFHS assessment from the Health Promotion Centers, the Metropolitan Health and Wellness Institution, and the Bureau of Reproductive Health, totaling approximately 53 people.

Prof. Dr. Suthat Rungruanghiranya (M.D.) from the Faculty of Medicine, Srinakharinwirot University; Dr. Nanta Auamkul (M.D.), Advisor to the Bureau of Reproductive Health; Mrs. Jaruwan Jongvanich, Advisor to the Bureau of Reproductive Health; Mrs. Prakaidao Promprapat, Advisor to the Bureau of Reproductive Health; Ms. Sasakorn Wichai from the Child And Adolescent Mental Health Rajanagarindra Institute, Department of Mental Health; Mr. Pichpun Pongsakul from the Bureau of AIDS and STIs, Department of Disease Control; Mr. Chawallanat Laopoonpat and Ms. Pornsawan Yusupap, independent consultants and speakers on industrial and organizational psychology. The workshop included lectures on the importance of providing youth-friendly health services, guidelines for adolescent and youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services, guidelines for adolescent and youth-friendly mental health services, threats from cigarettes and e-cigarettes to adolescents and youth, and prevention strategies. Other topics included adolescent health development, the 2020 version of the certification process for adolescent and youth-friendly health services, guidelines for adolescent and youth-friendly HIV and sexually transmitted infection services, concepts for quality development in accordance with the 2020 standards for adolescent and youth-friendly health services, principles of friendly site visits, competencies and preparations for surveyors, practical exercises in assessments based on the standards, and practical exercises in professional coaching techniques. The objective of this workshop is to strengthen the capacity of surveyors to support the external assessment of facility-based youth-friendly health services (YFHS) at the Health Centers and the central level. This aims to enable public health facilities to provide adolescent and youth-friendly health services according to the standards, ultimately contributing to the improvement of the health and well-being of adolescents and youth in Thailand.
